A civil wedding has a legal core that is over quickly and a day built around it that runs twelve hours. Nearly everything worth photographing sits in the second part. The first part still sets your constraints, though, because the licensed room is chosen for you by whichever building you booked, and that room fixes your ceremony light whether it suits you or not.

Go into that room at whatever hour the ceremony has been booked for, on any day they will let you in, and see where the sun has reached. One such visit beats any brochure. Should the answer turn out to be a wall of glass behind the registrar, that is workable, but March is a better time to learn it than August. The two here are South Lodge and Random Hall Hotel.

Certain of them are content for the whole thing to be shot from wherever you like; others want one position held and no movement after the doors shut; some prefer the vows themselves left alone. Overrunning happens at the group photographs more than anywhere else, and arithmetic fixes it better than charm does. Write your list, then cap it.
