The short answer
Canvas prints are made in house at the studio on The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU, two minutes' walk from Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line. Bring the photo on your phone, a USB stick, an emailed file, an old print or a negative. Before anything is printed, a photographer checks the resolution, corrects colour and contrast where needed and tells you the largest size that will still look sharp. Ready-to-hang canvases typically take one to two weeks, because each one is made to measure. No appointment is needed.
Your visit
We look at the image with you on screen and talk through size, finish and where it will hang. If the file will not hold the size you had in mind, we say so and suggest what will, because a canvas that comes out soft is no use to anyone.
Old prints and negatives are scanned at high resolution first, and a faded or damaged original can be repaired through our photo restoration service before it goes onto canvas. Gentle retouching, such as easing out a distracting mark or lifting faded tones, is done before printing.
Choosing
Canvas gives a softer, textured finish that flatters portraits and landscapes. Fine-art paper behind glass gives a timeless gallery feel, while acrylic or aluminium suits bold, contemporary rooms. We help you match the finish to the photograph and the room.
As a rule of thumb, a single statement piece looks best when it fills roughly two-thirds of the wall or the furniture beneath it. Bring a quick photo of the wall, or its rough measurements, and we will help you picture the finished piece.
Timing
Ready-to-hang canvases and bespoke frames typically take one to two weeks. If you are working to a date, such as a birthday, an anniversary or a memorial, tell us when you come in and we will work to it. Every piece is quoted individually before any work begins, so there are no surprises.
