Stillness at the heart of a Swindon nikah
Very little movement happens during a nikah. The volume in the room drops, one voice carries, and what deserves photographing is attention rather than action: a father's hand, a witness tipping forward, the beat before somebody answers. One position, the softest shutter the body offers, and no repositioning at all whenever anything is being recited aloud. Where a document is signed afterwards, the picture to take comes from above a shoulder, pen and paper and nothing else in it.
Everything about a mehndi evening pulls the other way. Loud, saturated with colour, lit by whatever the hall happens to own, and forgiving of a flash bounced upward off a pale ceiling.
