Prayers of blessing close the nikah, and we photograph the raised palms of the whole gathering, a wide and reverent frame of the community around the marriage. Handing the signed nikah-nama across the table is a small administrative act with enormous weight, and we photograph the paper changing hands as carefully as we photograph the couple. There is real emotion when the couple first see each other as husband and wife, and we photograph it gently whether it comes in a mirror or face to face.
Long tables, elders served first and two families becoming one over a meal, the sharing of food at the walima is something we photograph with care. When the baraat reaches the gates, we photograph the dancing peaking, the family spilling out to receive it and the groom arriving to the loudest welcome of the day. Between the formal events sit the long, unglamorous hours of relatives arriving, tea being poured and children running loose, and some of the best frames of the whole week come out of them.

Arriving before the flowers and the caterers do gives us the venue empty, the prayer hall calm and the decoration untouched, and those frames anchor the beginning of every album we make. Sharing tea and nerves, the groom's side gathers early too, and we photograph the anticipation building before anyone sets off for the ceremony.
Departures matter as much as arrivals, and photographing the couple leaving, the car, the crowd at the doors and the last waves gives the album a proper ending. A morning nikah and an evening walima make for a full day, and twenty five years of them means we know exactly where to stand and when.
