Inside, kirtan is long and it is quiet, and we take very little during it on purpose. We move once, at the palla, and then hold. From any single spot, four laavan produce four near-identical pictures, so the difference lives in whatever else the frame contains.
The musicians on one circuit, then the parents, then hands, then the width of the hall on the last. Ardas brings everybody upright and deserves a frame wide enough to show how full the place is. Langar is seated and low, photographed from a crouch or not at all. Hardest of the lot is the doli, which is dark, crowded and genuinely upsetting, and shoving a camera into that is precisely the wrong instinct. We stay back and let the longer lens do it.
