Out with the baraat we walk backwards more than forwards, framing the groom through the dancing rather than over it, and we keep well clear of the drummers' arcs while doing it.

Escorting the bride into the darbar hall is a slow, charged walk, and we work ahead of it from the side aisle so the arrival is covered without a lens ever facing the Guru Granth Sahib.
The mehndi evening moves at its own gentle pace, and we photograph the trays of sweets, the green and gold of the outfits and the anticipation building through the songs. Doli endings ask for restraint rather than technique. We hold back, use a long lens, and let the family close around the car without a photographer pressing into the middle of the goodbye. Bhangra takes over the reception floor, and we photograph the shoulders, the spins and the whole room moving together as the dhol and the DJ trade the night between them.

Days of celebration, one continuous story
Departure from the house is a small ceremony of its own, the blessing at the door, the last look back, the cars filling up, and we cover it before following on to the gurdwara. The gana is tied, the vatna is rubbed in and the singing starts, and we are already working before anyone thinks to look at the camera.
Timings slip, always, and our answer is simply to stay. A ceremony that starts an hour late does not shorten the coverage, and nobody should watch the clock at their own wedding. Family portraits at the reception catch the relatives who could not make the morning, and we run a second short set there so both halves of the guest list appear in the album.
