Milni, sehra bandi and the morning baraat
Milni is outdoors, on foot, in whatever the county weather is doing, and it consists of pairs of relatives who are often strangers to each other. Getting it right is a research problem rather than an optical one, so send the pairings beforehand and no senior figure ends up shot from behind. Arrival is different again. The baraat moves, sings, and comes at you with the sun behind it, and nothing about it will slow down, so we photograph it walking, facing the front rank.
Then the whole room is down on the carpet, cameras included. Working height for the whole ceremony is fixed by that, and a tripod becomes close to useless. We stay to the sides and the rear, quiet, on long focal lengths. Four circuits repeat one geometry four times over, so we change corner between them instead of producing four copies of a single picture. The palla wants a tighter distance than the singing does. Langar afterwards is not filler, and it does not get photographed as filler.
