The moment the fourth laav is completed and the flower petals rain down, we are ready for it, photographing the shower, the smiles and the congregation calling out in joy. We never use intrusive flash inside the darbar hall, working instead with the natural light on the canopy, the rumalla and the golden colour of the morning.
Kalire tied above the choora are photographed close before the shaking begins, so the detail of the gold work is kept alongside the moment they finally drop on a cousin's head. We photograph the first dance for the small things, the way you hold each other, the kalire still on your wrist and the friends crowding in as the song closes. We photograph the doli with quiet care, the rice thrown back over your shoulder, the last embraces with your parents and the car pulling away from the family home.

Alarm clocks go off absurdly early for an anand karaj, and we are usually there before the family is fully awake, which is exactly when the most unguarded pictures happen. Prayer at home before leaving, a hukamnama read or a shabad played, is part of the morning for many families, and we cover it with the same restraint we bring to the darbar hall.
Timings slip, always, and our answer is simply to stay. A ceremony that starts an hour late does not shorten the coverage, and nobody should watch the clock at their own wedding. Arrival at the reception is the second entrance of the day and deserves the same care as the first, so we are inside the room and framed before the doors open.
