Sea light is bright and directionless at midday and superb an hour before sunset, which is why a wedding in Bournemouth should protect a short window late in the afternoon. This is a Dorset seaside resort known for long sandy beaches and Victorian pleasure gardens, and the Lower Gardens running down through the town centre to the seafront give shelter and planting when wind off the bay makes the beach unworkable. Bournemouth Pier, the Victorian pier extending into the bay, is the most recognisable frame in the town. Hotel Miramar, the Marsham Court Hotel, The Suncliff Hotel and the Bournemouth Carlton Hotel are all within reach of both. Registrars are not interchangeable. Districts hold different positions about camera movement during the declarations, and some will direct you to the rear wall and leave you standing there. Two neighbouring districts can hand you two different answers. Put the question at your appointment, well before the morning itself, then pass the answer along to us, because it settles whether the vows are photographed close in or from wherever they park you. It also settles whether a second body is worth carrying through the door.

Legally the day has a very short core. Twenty minutes inside a long one carry the whole weight, and everything surrounding them is yours to arrange. Group photographs are what couples underestimate: each named combination spends time taken from something else, so we want the list a fortnight ahead and then we argue you down from it. Speeches make one lighting problem and the first dance makes another, never the same one.

We stay if we can, charged by the hour and agreed on the night rather than argued over afterwards. Where another commitment the following morning makes it impossible, you will have heard that before booking.

Can we spread the payments rather than pay everything at once?+

Yes. A deposit secures the date, and the balance can be split across the months leading up to the wedding, on dates that you choose. We put that schedule in writing so nobody is guessing during the final week.

Would an engagement shoot help us relax?+

For most couples it does, and the reason is mechanical. Sixty minutes of being photographed teaches you what we are going to ask for, so on the wedding day nobody is learning anything new.

How do we hold our Bournemouth date with you?+

A signed contract plus a deposit. Until both land, your Bournemouth date remains available to anybody else who asks, and we mention that only because summer Saturdays disappear early and we would sooner not disappoint you.

We would rather not have too many posed photos; is that alright?+
