For portraits we would suggest a short walk in Northernhay Gardens, laid out in 1612 as the oldest public open space in England, or along Exeter Quay by the River Exe, and we let you be yourselves there rather than arranging every detail. Exeter offers everything from the Devon Register Office at County Hall on Topsham Road, where the large ceremony room takes up to 60 guests including the two witnesses, to exclusive-use country houses such as Pynes House and Rockbeare Manor, and we would photograph the whole day as it happens at any of them. The practical side matters too: at Exeter Golf and Country Club the Topsham Room looks over the 18th-hole fountain, so we would settle where to stand before guests take their seats. Engagement shoots, a second photographer for busier days and beautiful fine art albums are all part of what we offer, and we travel throughout Devon and the rest of the UK for your wedding.
Distance from London is itself a planning factor, since a Devon wedding usually means travelling down the night before so the morning starts unhurried rather than off the motorway. Once there, the city is compact. Exeter Cathedral stands in the historic centre, and Northernhay Gardens lie on the north side of Rougemont Castle, which means a ceremony in the centre and a set of green portraits are a short walk apart. Guests coming by rail from London Paddington arrive at Exeter St Davids. The quayside on the River Exe, now used mostly for leisure, adds water to the day if the timings allow. Pynes House, Rockbeare Manor and the Exeter Golf and Country Club all take the reception out of the centre, so build that transfer in properly.
