We are happy to talk through your timeline before you book anything; at Bantock House, for example, ceremonies take place in the oak-panelled Drawing Room for up to 25 or the Coach House for up to 100, and its 43 acres of parkland and formal gardens leave room for portraits in between. Engagement shoots, a second photographer and fine art albums can all be added, and for an engagement session in the city we would suggest West Park, a 17-hectare Victorian park with a lake that opened in 1881.

St Peter's Collegiate Church gives a traditional ceremony backdrop, and the Victorian house museum at Wightwick Manor with its grounds, along with West Park, provide the daylight portrait locations. The city gained its status in 2001 and is easy to reach, with the railway station on the West Coast Main Line and the M54 and M6 close by, so a baraat travelling in from Codsall, Sedgley or Willenhall can be timed with confidence.

Rules inside a registrar's room are fixed, not negotiable, and they differ building to building: standing positions, whether anyone may shift position while vows are said, whether signing gets photographed live or only restaged later. Have them put in writing when the room is reserved. Whatever they turn out to be we work to them, though a fortnight's notice beats being told as we arrive.
Past that, couples do not alter the job. Two grooms. Two brides. A church service. A celebrant in someone's garden. Identical questions apply: where light originates, who will cry, which relative needs photographing before slipping away early. Speeches want a position chosen for reactions rather than for the speaker, since a speaker stays put while the table does not. The lighting over a dance floor gets read before the first dance begins. Same-sex couples field exactly the practical questions everyone else fields, and nothing in the day calls for different vocabulary from us.
