Smethwick is somewhere we return to often for weddings. There is real variety in where our couples marry, from register offices to grand houses and hotel ballrooms, and we photograph every one of them across Bearwood, Oldbury and Handsworth and the wider the West Midlands. We watch for the unguarded moments during the service, the shaking hands, the mouthed words, the parent wiping an eye, and hold them without interrupting anything.

Our eyes are always on the reactions, the parents watching, the friends laughing, because those unguarded moments are what you will want to look back on. Two of us usually cover the day, one following you and one on the guests, so both sides of every moment are recorded without either of us crowding the room. You will barely notice us at work, and that is the point; we move calmly around the day so the pictures show how it actually felt, not how it was arranged.

For portraits away from the celebration, Warley Woods, a hundred acre community park with woodland and open meadow works beautifully, and The Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick, one of the largest Sikh places of worship in Europe adds a real sense of place.

The exchange of rings, the signing of the register and the walk back up the aisle all matter to us, and we cover each without asking you to pause. From the first steps down the aisle to the final walk back as a married couple, we follow your ceremony closely and let it breathe without any staging.

When the evening party begins and the lights come down, we adapt our approach, working in low light to keep the dancing alive and full of energy. We photograph the speeches from more than one angle when a second photographer is with us, so you keep both the joke and the reaction to it. Between the set pieces there are portraits of just the two of you, and we keep those short and natural so you can slip back to the party quickly.
