Serving Bath

Telling your Asian wedding story in Bath

Ceremonies are not the risky part of a wedding that runs over several days. Each one has a host, a start time and somebody who knows precisely what follows. Trouble lives in the joins: that ninety minutes where one venue has finished with you, the next is not ready, half the party is changing clothes and nobody holds the schedule. Days get lost in there, and photographers get blamed for losing them.

Bath widens those joins, because a wedding here is a stay rather than a commute. Guests step off a Great Western train at Bath Spa with a suitcase and no car, they are spread over the city instead of gathered into one hotel, and every move between events depends on lifts nobody actually arranged. Appoint one person per day whose sole job is answering the question where next. That saves more of a gallery than any equipment we own.

Every tradition

At home with every Asian wedding tradition

Some of you will marry with a fire lit in the room. Some will complete four laavan. Some will sign a nikah-nama with witnesses either side. What none of you escapes is the same structural problem: a brief, unrepeatable core dropped into a long and loose day. So we find out early which of those is yours, and we find it out properly. Knowing what comes next instead of guessing is worth about two seconds, and those two seconds are where the picture lives.

The evenings around that core vary far more than the ceremonies. Jago and sangeet are stage-lit performances and get shot as such, with white balance fixed by hand before anybody sings. Dholki and mehndi fill a low warm room, wanting a quick lens and nothing on-camera pointed at it. Haldi is a morning with one open window. No single family keeps all of these, and none of them is photographed as if it were another.

Why choose us

Why Knowing the Rituals Matters on the Day

The running order is not trivia. It puts us in the right place thirty seconds early, and thirty seconds early is what separates a picture of the moment from a picture of somebody's shoulders. So we ask what your family does, not what a tradition is supposed to do.

Editing begins that same week. A small set of previews reaches you first, then the whole gallery once each frame has had hands on it instead of a preset. Albums come later, if you want one, once you have lived alongside the pictures a while.

Yes, though from a good deal further away than couples expect. A vidaai is not ours to stand inside. Long lens, out of the doorway, family left alone with it: that is how the moment survives looking like itself.

Book once the venue is signed for. Summer Saturdays vanish first, and a multi-day Bath booking blocks more diary than a single date does, so those go earlier still. Nothing is held on a verbal promise.

Yes. We ask first who may be photographed, we accept the answer, and we stop for the parts that are not ours to keep. Where a woman is wanted on the women's side, that is arranged at booking and not debated on the day.

Absolutely. Fusion weddings are a pleasure to photograph precisely because of their variety. Combining a Hindu ceremony with a register office service, or uniting Sikh and Muslim families, we treat every custom with respect and plan the schedule so neither half of your celebration is short-changed. Outdoors in Bath we would head for Royal Victoria Park, a landscaped park below the Royal Crescent with a botanical garden.
