Across three days, the ceremonies are the least of it. The joins are where it breaks: an afternoon with no schedule, a change of outfit that overruns, a coach nobody booked. Bristol draws its out-of-town guests through one railway station, Temple Meads, on the line up to London Paddington, so arrivals land in waves across a Friday evening rather than together. The first event of the weekend is therefore photographed in a room that keeps filling.

The other pressure is that no two days share an address. Each move resets the light, the ceilings, the power sockets and the distance between a door and a car, and anyone who has not seen a plan of the next building is working blind by day three. Every tradition has an hour where the photographer stops being the one deciding. In one family that authority sits with a priest and a fire; in another with an institution whose rules predate your booking entirely; elsewhere it is a table, two witnesses and a signature. Our job is to know which arrangement you are handing us, and to have asked well before the morning, at a point when somebody still has time to explain it properly.

Around that hour the same craft applies everywhere. A mehndi runs slowly and late, and the light gets worse as the pictures get better. A garba puts everyone on the floor at once and hands you nothing sharp unless you commit to one shutter speed and stay there. A reception is lit, scheduled and mostly predictable, and the hardest thing in it is usually the walk to the top table. We treat each as its own shoot.

How We Photograph Without Getting in the Way

Yes, the reception is a major part of the celebration. We capture the grand entrance, the speeches, the first dance and the energy on the floor as the dhol and DJ take charge. We keep shooting right through the evening so the full spirit of the party is preserved. Ours is a documentary style through and through. We move with the day, photographing the rituals, the raw emotion and the fleeting in-between moments without getting in the way.
