We treat the priest's space as his own, staying low and quiet so the mantras and the offerings continue exactly as they should while we photograph from the side. Dressing to blend in, suitable for a mandir and comfortable for fourteen hours, is part of the job. We take our shoes off where we should and move through the day as a guest would. We arrive early and quietly test the light around the mandap, so once the ceremony begins we are settled, positioned and ready rather than scrambling for angles.

During the ganesh puja that opens the ceremony, we stay quiet and low, photographing the priest, the offerings and the small gestures of the family as the day is blessed. Chero pakaryo, when the groom takes hold of the bride's sari, marks a turn in the ceremony, so we watch the hands and the reaction of the elders sitting nearest the mandap. As the sindoor is applied and the mangalsutra tied, we photograph the closeness of the moment, the expressions and the hands, treating it with the reverence it holds for your families.
Fireworks or a sparkler send-off at the end of a reception need setting up minutes in advance, so we ask about them at the planning stage rather than discovering them as they are lit. The sangeet often ends with everyone dancing together, and we stay on the floor for it, photographing the mix of generations letting go as the music runs late into the night. Kalire tied to the bangles get shaken over the heads of unmarried friends later, which makes a lovely, chaotic little sequence to photograph in among the calmer parts of the morning.

Grandmothers are often ready first and sitting quietly while everyone else rushes, and those early portraits of the eldest of the family, unhurried and beautifully dressed, are worth arriving for. The morning of the wedding has a rhythm of its own, and we are there for the prayers, the dressing and the calm before the baraat.
The couple barely eat at their own wedding, so if you want portraits in the evening we keep them short, ten minutes at most, and give the rest of the night back to you. Timings slip through the day and rarely recover, so we carry our own running order in mind and adapt quietly rather than asking your family to keep to a schedule that has already moved.
