Each of the four laavan carries the couple once around the Guru Granth Sahib, and we keep our distance and our heads covered while the living Guru presides. Hastamelap joins the couple's right hands beneath a cloth at a Gujarati mandap, and we take that frame from the front, where the priest's tying is visible. The garland exchange, when bride and groom raise the jaimala over one another, releases the first great cheer of the day, and we catch it as it breaks.
Garba nights run for hours and only improve as they go, so we stay past the point most photographers would pack away and catch the final circles. Haldi mornings usually happen in a courtyard or a back garden in flat daylight, and we work with that light rather than lighting it artificially. Bidaai is the one event we never crowd, holding back with a longer lens so a family's last embrace is not conducted around a photographer.

We ask what time the priest expects to begin, not what time the invitation says, because those two figures are rarely the same. Where preparations happen in two towns at once, a second photographer can be booked so that neither side of the family is left without a morning.
