Knowing the order of a Hindu ceremony means we are already in position for the pheras and the sindoor, not scrambling to catch up once they begin. We often take couples to Jesmond Dene, a wooded river valley park designed in part by the Armstrong family for a few quiet portraits, and The Tyne Bridge, a steel arch bridge linking Newcastle and Gateshead across the river is a lovely backdrop nearby.

The Mandap, the Palki and the Rites Within

At a Muslim wedding, the nikah and the signing of the contract carry great dignity, and we cover them with respect. Whatever your family keeps, Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Gujarati or Tamil, we follow the ritual closely and respectfully. At a Gujarati mandap we know the hastamelap and the four mangal pheras, and we photograph them in the order your priest keeps rather than a generic script.

The reception carries the celebration into the night with speeches, the first dance and the floor filling for the bhangra, and we stay to the final song. Away from the couple, cousins reunite, aunts organise and children weave through the crowd, and we watch the family moments that fill the edges of the day. A sangeet belongs to the family, all rehearsed dances and gentle teasing, and we keep pace with its energy late into the night.
