The short answer
Your Sikh wedding photographer in Newcastle upon Tyne, at a glance
Choosing a Sikh wedding photographer in Newcastle upon Tyne usually comes down to trust. Kaushik Bathia has twenty five years of it, five European Gold awards, and Fellowship of both the BIPP and the MPA. Out with the baraat we walk backwards more than forwards, framing the groom through the dancing rather than over it, and we keep well clear of the drummers' arcs while doing it. Some couples want the gurdwara alone, others the whole week. Either works in Newcastle upon Tyne: the maiyan, the sehra bandi, the baraat, the four laavan, langar and the reception are each available on their own. Award-winning quality is a promise we can stand behind, with five European Kodak Gold awards earned on documentary wedding work. Albums are hand finished and made to be passed down, engagement shoots are relaxed and unhurried, and a second photographer is available for large celebrations. Travel to Tyne and Wear and across the UK is welcomed.
Direct East Coast Main Line trains from London and Edinburgh put Newcastle within reach for a sangat travelling a long way, which shapes the timings. The anand karaj is held at the gurdwara with the Guru Granth Sahib at the centre of the darbar hall, ardas offered, kirtan sung and the four laavan walked, heads covered throughout. Milni earlier in the day is the outdoor one. The Vermont Hotel or the Civic Centre then take the reception, and langar deserves its own coverage. Grainger Town and its Georgian streets give the couple a city backdrop.
Serving Newcastle upon Tyne

Two photographic problems sit inside one Sikh wedding date, and they share almost nothing. The earlier room is neither yours nor ours; its arrangement predates the wedding and will outlast it. Light there is whatever was fitted. Carpet tints whatever bounces off it. Standing positions answer to a purpose other than photography, quite properly, so a long lens travels rather than the person holding it. Low, slow, unobtrusive.
Later, everything reverses. A reception room can be shaped, and there the choices are genuinely yours. Worth asking early: which building holds the harder fixed hour, because the other one then absorbs whatever runs long. Worth asking too what an evening room does with its house lights while people speak, and whether any of them can be switched off. Joins break days, rarely either half on its own: transfers, arrivals, the half hour nobody budgeted for. We plan that gap minute by minute, since goodwill is not a schedule.

Respecting the granthi and the pace of the service
Almost nothing about the pace belongs to us. The service moves at the speed of the singing, and anyone moving at a different speed becomes the thing people look at. Three standing positions, chosen beforehand, cover the whole hour; we shift between them only when the room is already shifting anyway. Lens changes are decided in advance too. An hour spent at floor level rewards preparation and punishes reflexes.
Milni takes place outside, early, which makes it the one stretch offering daylight plus a degree of direction, and also the quickest: greetings arrive in pairs, overlap each other, and are done inside a few minutes. Langar afterwards carries a different etiquette, so we withdraw to the edges and switch to the longest glass we carry. Palla is a still instant lodged inside a moving one, taken from one side at distance. Doli ends things, and by then the flash is packed away; whatever a doorway offers becomes the exposure.

Why choose us
Respectful in the gurdwara, wherever it stands
We treat that earlier building as somebody else's house, because it is. Whoever runs it agrees our permissions weeks ahead, nothing gets whispered to anyone mid-service, and a refusal is accepted without negotiation. We travel to Newcastle upon Tyne the day before rather than the morning of, since a rushed arrival is visible in the earliest frames of a gallery.

Good to know
Wedding photography in Newcastle upon Tyne, frequently asked questions
Yes, on short bookings as readily as long ones. It is an extra and never bundled. Where a day runs compressed, the second camera buys exactly one thing: two rooms covered at the same minute. No clash, no need for it.
Certainly. It books separately from the wedding day rather than as extra hours bolted on. Henna work sits close, slow and mostly still, wanting a macro lens and patience; neither helps much the following day.
A small preview lands within a fortnight or so. Everything else follows after some weeks, since culling and grading honestly takes the time it takes, and a rushed gallery is worse than a late one.
You handle the introduction; the arrangement afterwards is ours to make. Rules vary building by building, so a written understanding beforehand beats anything improvised while guests are already coming through the door.
Ask us. Bookings are taken in the order enquiries arrive, and a few months ahead there is frequently space. If that date is gone you hear so quickly and plainly, instead of a Newcastle Upon Tyne wedding left waiting on us.
