These home ceremonies are never repeated and never staged, which is why we cover them as they happen rather than asking anyone to pose. Kalire are tied over the choora with blessings and jokes in equal measure, and we photograph the whole exchange without interrupting it.
Two venues, several hundred guests and a fourteen-hour day is a normal Saturday for us, and the pacing that makes it work has been learned across twenty-five years of them. When the doli leaves and the noise falls away, we are still working, because those last quiet minutes are often the truest of the day.
