Reading is a large and diverse town at the meeting of the Thames and the Kennet, with a strong commercial and technology sector. Reading station is a major railway interchange served by Great Western Railway, the Elizabeth line and cross country services, close to junctions 10 and 11 of the M4. We often take couples to Forbury Gardens, the Victorian public gardens next to the abbey ruins for a few quiet portraits, and The ruins of Reading Abbey beside the Forbury is a lovely backdrop nearby.

From the Baraat to the Pheras and Beyond

We know the order of the rituals in each tradition, so we are always in position. The muhurat and muhurtham, the auspicious hours, set the pace of the ceremony, and we plan around them. The vows at a nikah end in the joyful declaration that the couple are married, and the room's relief and delight are ours to keep.

Away from the couple, cousins reunite, aunts organise and children weave through the crowd, and we watch the family moments that fill the edges of the day. The farewell, when the bride leaves her family, is the most tender moment of many Asian weddings. The dhol player sets the pulse of the baraat, and we work close to the drum and the dancers so the picture carries the sound within it.
