We learn the sequence of your particular ceremony beforehand, so whether it is Hindu, Sikh, Muslim, Gujarati or Tamil, we anticipate each ritual rather than chase it.

A female photographer is available for the getting-ready hours and any moments where the women of the family would prefer a woman behind the camera. We often take couples to The Trentham Estate with its Italian Gardens and lakeside walks for a few quiet portraits, and Trentham Gardens and the Gladstone Pottery Museum in Longton is a lovely backdrop nearby.

The Ceremony, Captured as It Truly Unfolds

At a Sikh wedding the exchange of garlands and the palla placed in the couple's hands begin the Anand Karaj, and we follow from the very first hymn. At a Gujarati mandap we know the hastamelap and the four mangal pheras, and we photograph them in the order your priest keeps rather than a generic script. During the most solemn passages we step back and lengthen the lens, so the granthi's words or the sacred fire are photographed from a respectful distance.

For Gujarati families the garba and raas fill an evening with circling colour and movement, and we love following the dandiya sticks and the swirling skirts. At the milni the two families meet and embrace, garlands are exchanged and the elders greet one another, and we record the warmth of that first joining.
