Two buildings, two unrelated jobs, one invoice. The hall in the morning runs on rules and on light nobody outside the institution has any standing to alter, and we would not want to. The barn afterwards is the opposite proposition: every lamp burning in it is a decision somebody made, which means it is also a decision somebody can still change. Book each as its own commission, and plan the hours accordingly.
The travelling hour is the only elastic part of the day. Guests reach Bicester by two stations and the M40, so the sangat assembles in stages, and the length of that interval decides whether portraits get daylight in the gardens at Garth Park or the tail of it beside parked cars. Fix the interval, then build the timings outward from it. Everything else on the schedule is negotiable; that is not.

Inside the darbar hall, from palla to ardas
Guru Granth Sahib anchors that room's geometry, and geometry decides your pictures long before light does. One low position is chosen before anything opens and it is kept. Anything invisible from there goes unphotographed, which makes that single choice the largest of the morning. Direct your questions to the committee days ahead, because nobody will break off to answer them once the hall is seated.
A palla runs through the whole of it, one cloth held in four hands, and that continuity is what lets four rounds read as a sequence instead of as repetition. We let the variation come from the hall rather than from us shuffling about inside it. Stillest of all is the ardas that closes it, everybody standing, nobody looking our way, and no arranged picture will ever beat it. We photograph it from the seat we have held all morning, without a step in either direction.

That is the normal situation, and it alters very little, since the position was never ours to pick. The committee decides where a camera may sit, we raise it with them in the week beforehand, and their ruling stands without argument.
Yes, and if anything it needs more planning than the morning did. An evening reception room is often dark, heavily dressed and washed in coloured uplighting, none of which flatters skin by default. That has to be worked with deliberately.
