We work quietly around the priest, the granthi or the imam so the ceremony is never disturbed. At the gurdwara, the couple's walk around the Guru Granth Sahib during each laav is captured with reverence. At a Muslim nikah we photograph the vows, the mehr and the joyful moment the couple are declared married.

The farewell, when the bride leaves her family, is the most tender moment of many Asian weddings. When the reception loosens and the dance floor takes over, the bhangra runs late and joyful, and we stay for every last turn under the lights. When the baraat sets off, the dhol drives the dancing and the groom moves slowly forward amid his family, and we are in the thick of every joyful step.
