The night before the wedding often turns into an informal sangeet, and we photograph the family dances, the singing and the generations packed into one loud and happy room. We photograph the first dance for the small things, the way you hold each other, the kalire still on your wrist and the friends crowding in as the song closes. At the sehra bandi we photograph the groom's sisters tying the sehra, the surma being applied and the family fussing over him before the baraat sets off.

Multi-day Sikh weddings suit our approach, and we settle in early so the maiyan, the mehndi and the jago each get proper coverage. Dawn coverage often starts in two houses at once, so where a second photographer is booked, both sets of preparations are photographed as they happen rather than one being reconstructed later.
Elders often leave before the dancing starts, and knowing that, we make sure their photographs are taken early rather than hoping to catch them later in the evening. The baraat arrives on a wave of drumming and dancing, and we are in the middle of it, photographing the groom and the crowd around him.
