Gurdwara morning, reception evening: a Sikh day in Dudley

Your ceremony room in Dudley belongs to a congregation, not to your booking, and that settles most of the photographic questions before anybody thinks to ask them. Sri Guru Granth Sahib's palki draws every sightline that matters, so an anand karaj gets covered around the constraint instead of against it. We work from the side aisles at seated height, on quiet long lenses, and never step into the ground separating the congregation from the front. Anything that would oblige somebody to move aside for us is simply not attempted.

Shoot the laavan from one unchanging spot and four rounds become a single picture repeated, so we alternate sides and give two of them to the parents instead. The palla is a small gesture, easily missed, and worth briefing a second shooter about. Milni is outdoors in whatever weather Dudley supplies, inside a crowd, and arrives as a string of short embraces rather than one event. Langar gets photographed sparingly, since a hall of people eating is not a picture. Mehndi and the jago, in the evenings before, are louder and darker, and want different kit altogether.
