What happens inside the darbar hall
We photograph the four laavan around the Guru Granth Sahib with quiet care, keeping each circuit clean and unhurried so the heart of the anand karaj is held exactly as it happened. Between the ardas and the karah prashad the hall relaxes almost audibly, and we work the rows at that point, gathering congratulations, embraces and the relief on both sets of parents. Karah prashad is received in cupped hands and shared along the rows, and we photograph the giving rather than only the taking, since the sewadars are as much part of the morning as anyone.
Choora mornings are emotional in the best way, and we photograph the milk, the bangles and the maternal family gathered close as the ceremony unfolds. Before the wedding we often do a pre-wedding shoot, giving us time to get to know you both and giving you relaxed, natural pictures ahead of the big days. Sithniyan sung by the bride's side are teasing, funny and completely untranslatable, and we photograph the aunties delivering them and the groom's family taking it in good humour.
