A Sikh wedding is two jobs in two buildings, and the two share almost nothing. The gurdwara owns the anand karaj: it fixes the etiquette, it fixes the light, and neither of those is ours to alter. The evening then moves to a hotel in or near St Albans, where every lamp in the room becomes our decision and the ceiling is the only genuine constraint on what we can do with it.
That split is why both addresses are asked for at enquiry rather than in the final week. The closing ardas is pure stillness, photographed without a step being taken. Milni and the doli happen outside the hall and are covered like any other outdoor moment.
