Four laavan, one palla
Anand karaj is short, undramatic and almost entirely a test of restraint on the photographer's part. Four slow circuits follow, palla in hand, and that cloth is the reason a tight frame on one face fails: crop it away and the point has gone with it. Nobody crosses in front, ever, so the passes have to be varied by lens and by height rather than by walking round. Ragis occupy one side, which removes that side from you for the duration.
Around it the day widens out. Milni comes early and outdoors, pairs of relatives meeting in quick succession, and it is unphotographable without knowing in advance which relative pairs with which. Langar seats people in long low rows, a gift to anyone willing to lie down and useless from standing height. Doli closes things off in a car park, generally in worse light than anything before it, and jago runs on movement and hand-held light after dark.
