We work in the background of the priest, the granthi or the imam, reading their rhythm so the ceremony flows without a photographer in the way. The blessings of parents and elders draw many ceremonies to a close, hands resting on heads in benediction, and we hold those tender moments gently.

The reception carries the celebration into the night with speeches, the first dance and the floor filling for the bhangra, and we stay to the final song. When the reception loosens and the dance floor takes over, the bhangra runs late and joyful, and we stay for every last turn under the lights. Away from the couple, cousins reunite, aunts organise and children weave through the crowd, and we watch the family moments that fill the edges of the day.
