Aberdeen is the granite city, with grand venues. The venues of Scotland range from tiny chapels to sweeping banqueting halls, and we have shot weddings in a good many of them, with the area near Dyce, Cults and Bridge of Don especially familiar. We understand how quickly a ceremony passes, so we prepare thoroughly beforehand and then let the day carry us, catching the vows as they land.
Rather than lining people up, we let groups form on their own and photograph them as they laugh and talk, keeping the whole thing loose and relaxed. Most of the day we work quietly from the edges, watching for the small moments between the big ones and letting them unfold without any nudging from us. We read the light in each room and work with what the day gives us, favouring window light and shade over anything that draws attention to a camera.
We have spent many happy days behind the camera in Aberdeen. Aberdeen is the granite city, with grand venues, and couples nearby in Glasgow and Edinburgh often bring us in for their own celebrations. Around Aberdeen we regularly photograph at Norwood Hall Hotel, Thainstone House Hotel and Logie Country House, among others.
Aberdeen is known as the Granite City for its distinctive granite architecture, with grand buildings lining Union Street in the city centre. Aberdeen railway station is around a ten minute walk from Union Street and Broad Street in the city centre. For relaxed couple photographs, we like Duthie Park by the River Dee, 44 acres of parkland with the David Welch Winter Gardens, and Marischal College on Broad Street, one of the largest granite buildings in the world gives the day a strong sense of Aberdeen.
