Two venues, one Sikh wedding day in Aberdeen
Plan an Aberdeen Sikh day as two bookings, because two is what it is, and it goes better handled as two shoots than as one long one. The hall the sangat gathers in belongs to the institution running it, lighting included; whatever fittings sit in that ceiling are the fittings you get, and no request alters them. Logie Country House and Norwood Hall Hotel present the reverse situation. We light a reception room ourselves, and no other stretch of the day allows that.
So the bag gets repacked between them instead of carried straight through. Fast glass and a steady hand in the morning; stands, cables and flash by evening. Ask early what the room needs for its turnaround after langar, because that gap is where your portraits either happen or quietly stop happening. Nobody volunteers that figure. You have to go and ask for it.

Guru Granth Sahib presides. Everything about where we stand descends from that single fact rather than from any preference of ours. We settle low and off to one side before the hall fills, then stay put. That is arithmetic more than modesty: once the floor is full, moving stops being possible. The couple barely shift for an hour, so the frames that come back carrying anything are of the people around them, the grandmother mouthing along, a child asleep against somebody's knee.
Palla is a small thing at waist height, easily thrown away by a wide lens, so something longer goes on before it. Milni runs outdoors, pair after pair, and Aberdeen can offer hard sun and flat grey inside the same hour, which is a metering problem rather than a framing one. Doli is the hard one: a car door, a crush, poor light and a family that has stopped performing. That gets shot from further back.
