Glasgow is Scotland's largest city, with a vibrant South Asian community and grand venues. Couples come to us from across Scotland, and Pollokshields, Govanhill and the West End are firmly on our patch. We photograph at gurdwaras, banqueting halls and marquees right across Scotland.

We bring a long lens and a light touch, so the four laavan are captured from the sides of the gurdwara at a respectful distance. We are calm and unhurried, gathering the whole story of the Anand Karaj without ever getting in the way. We keep the calm of the kirtan and the exuberance of the reception in equal measure.

When there is time for couple portraits, Kelvingrove Park, with the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum nearby is a favourite, and George Square, the principal civic square, overlooked by the City Chambers makes a memorable setting.

The Anand Karaj and the four laavan

The exchange of garlands and the joy of the sangat around the couple are moments we love to photograph. The kirtan and shabads that fill the gurdwara are as much a part of the story as the laavan themselves. Heads covered and seated on the floor with the sangat, we photograph the laavan without ever intruding.

The jaggo night is an evening of music, dancing and pots lit with candles, and we capture all of its energy. The mehndi is intimate and detailed, and we photograph both the henna and the laughter around it. The reception is the joyful finale, with speeches, the first dance, bhangra and giddha.
