Every family treats one moment as the unmissable one, and the choice differs every time. For some it is a garland exchange lasting four seconds. Either way, asking a week early and being told no beats taking a position on the day and then being moved off it in front of the room. Etiquette is harder than technique here.

Long lenses and soft shoes
We bring long lenses and soft shoes, and decide on a spot well before the seats fill. We do not stack lights around a ceremony floor or ask anybody to repeat anything for the camera. If you can tell afterwards where we were standing during the important part, we have done it badly.
