Edinburgh is Scotland's historic capital, with elegant venues. We are used to multi-venue days throughout Scotland, moving smoothly between Leith, Morningside and Portobello. We keep our distance during the most solemn moments and step in only for the joyful ones.

We bring a long lens and a light touch, so the most sacred parts of the day are captured from a respectful distance. When the baraat arrives with drums and dancing we are in the thick of it, moving with the crowd so the welcome looks and feels exactly as loud as it was. We photograph the small moments as carefully as the grand ones, the glances as well as the rituals.

Edinburgh Waverley is the city's main railway station and the busiest transport hub in Scotland. For relaxed couple photographs, we like Princes Street Gardens, the largest city park in the centre, in the shadow of the castle, with Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat nearby, and Edinburgh Castle, the fortress overlooking Princes Street Gardens gives the day a strong sense of Edinburgh.

For Sikh couples, the Anand Karaj and the four laavan in the gurdwara are the heart of the day, photographed with the calm the Guru Granth Sahib deserves. The blessings of parents and elders draw many ceremonies to a close, hands resting on heads in benediction, and we hold those tender moments gently. We know the order of the rituals in each tradition, so we are always in position.

The mehndi or henna night is intimate and detailed, and we photograph both the henna and the laughter around it. The mehndi evening is close and detailed, henna curling across the bride's hands while the room fills with song, and we photograph the artistry and the laughter alike. The groom may arrive on horseback, by car or on foot, and whichever way he comes, we are ready for the procession and the dancing around him.
