The short answer
London based and award winning, Kaushik Bathia has photographed Muslim weddings for over twenty five years, and he is glad to travel out to Edinburgh and the surrounding parts of Scotland for yours. Arriving early lets us read the light in the hall before the guests gather, so once the nikah begins we are already settled rather than searching for our angles. Elements families most want kept are the ones we plan around: the khutbah, the moment of acceptance, the mahr, the joota chupai and the tears of the rukhsati at a Edinburgh wedding. Etiquette in a prayer hall is not something we learned from a briefing sheet; it comes from twenty five years of working respectfully around Muslim families. Talk to us on 07956 505383 about a second photographer, an album, an engagement shoot or simply whether the date is free, and travel into Scotland can be settled in the same call.
Between a mosque and a hotel is the usual shape of an Edinburgh nikah, and Cheval The Edinburgh Grand or Virgin Hotels Edinburgh can carry the walima. The imam delivers the khutbah, ijab and qabool are exchanged, the mahr is set and the nikah-nama signed before two witnesses, and photography halts during Quranic recitation. Arthur's Seat and Holyrood Park sit close for portraits, with Princes Street Gardens the sheltered alternative. Stockbridge and Newington take those staying over, Edinburgh Waverley is the busiest transport hub in Scotland, and The Balmoral suits a larger room.
Serving Edinburgh
Edinburgh is Scotland's historic capital, with elegant venues. Across Scotland we photograph Muslim weddings in mosques, banqueting halls, hotels and marquees, and the venues around Leith, Morningside and Portobello are ones we travel to gladly. Two witnesses sit close to the signing, and we make sure they appear in the frames, because their presence is what makes the contract complete.
Where families keep the men's and women's gatherings separate, we agree the boundaries with you in advance and photograph only where you have invited us, so the arrangement is respected throughout the day. For the baraat we work on foot within the procession, keeping pace with the dhol and the dancing as the groom is brought to the wedding without ever getting in the family's way. Joota chupai and doodh pilai unfold fast and noisily, so we hold back and let the cousins run the moment, photographing the bargaining and the laughter rather than organising any of it.
Tell us your venue in Edinburgh and we will do the homework. Edinburgh is Scotland's historic capital, with elegant venues, and we plan the roads that link it to Dundee and Aberdeen. Venues we are glad to photograph at near Edinburgh include The Balmoral, Virgin Hotels Edinburgh and Cheval The Edinburgh Grand.
Edinburgh is Scotland's historic capital, with an Old Town and New Town divided by the green valley of Princes Street Gardens. Edinburgh Waverley is the city's main railway station and the busiest transport hub in Scotland. We often take couples to Princes Street Gardens, the largest city park in the centre, in the shadow of the castle, with Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat nearby for a few quiet portraits, and Edinburgh Castle, the fortress overlooking Princes Street Gardens is a lovely backdrop nearby.

What we offer
Each album is designed by hand, sequencing your events from the mehndi through the nikah to the walima, so the finished book reads as one continuous story rather than loose pictures.
The playful hiding of the groom's shoes and the bargaining that follows, photographed with all its laughter as the two families tease and celebrate together.
A few quiet portraits of the bride between the ceremony and the reception, so the detail of the gown, the henna and the jewellery is remembered at its very best.
Every Muslim ritual
The imam's khutbah before the contract sets the tone, and we photograph him speaking and the couple listening, keeping the sequence of the ceremony clear. Veils, mirrors and screens change how a couple first see one another as husband and wife, and we plan for whichever arrangement your family follows so the moment is not missed. We photograph the nikah with quiet care, from the imam opening the contract to the moment the couple are declared married, holding the stillness of the prayer hall exactly as it settles.
The mangni, the engagement, is where the two families formally come together, and we cover the rings, the sweets and the blessings that mark the promise. Dholki nights around Edinburgh tend to run long and loud, and we pace ourselves with them, photographing the singing, the boliyan and the drum passed from hand to hand. Tender and understated, the first look between the couple at the walima is photographed for the small things, the way they hold each other and the friends crowding in.

The whole celebration
Where the bride's side is separate, so the dressing, the henna and the family around her are fully kept. Across Scotland the pre-wedding preparations follow their own rhythm in each family, and we learn yours before we arrive.
Food service is a rhythm we know: the room empties of energy, then refills. We use the quiet of the meal for details and for the couple, then return as the floor fills. Equal care goes to the loud moments and the still ones, from the drums of the baraat to the silence of the dua after the contract.
Why choose us
Award-winning work is proven rather than promised, and five European Golds are the evidence. On your wedding day, though, what counts is that the man behind the camera has done this a thousand times. Large guest lists hold no fear for us; a walima of five or six hundred is a normal working day after a quarter century of Muslim weddings.
Traffic on a Saturday afternoon has ended more wedding timelines than bad weather, and we plan our routes into Scotland with that firmly in mind, always with a margin. Two venues on one day is normal at a Muslim wedding, and we map the drive between the ceremony and the walima hall in Scotland in advance so the coverage never simply stops.

Where we travel
The baraat often sets off in good time, so we build our afternoon around it, arriving in Scotland with time in hand before the first beat of the dhol. Getting to a mosque we have not worked in before means contacting it first, learning its rules on photography and agreeing our positions, and we do that for every venue in Scotland.

Good to know
Yes. Your gallery includes full high-resolution downloads with personal printing rights, so you can freely make prints, frames and gifts for the family. We are glad to point you towards labs that will do the colours of the outfits justice. There is no drip-feeding of files and no paying again for your own photographs. Getting to Edinburgh is straightforward for us: Edinburgh Waverley is the city's main railway station and the busiest transport hub in Scotland.
Yes. We carry full public liability and professional indemnity insurance, and we are happy to send the certificate to your mosque or venue in Edinburgh before the day. Many venues now ask for it as standard. It is one of the quiet markers of a long-established professional rather than a hobbyist with a good camera.
Kaushik photographs your wedding personally, so the person you meet, plan with and trust is the one working on the day. You are never handed to a stranger at the last minute. In and around Edinburgh that includes The Balmoral and Virgin Hotels Edinburgh.
We build slack into our coverage, because the imam's address, the ijab-o-qabool and the arrival of guests seldom run to the minute. If the ceremony begins later than planned or the dua stretches on, we keep photographing without fuss. You should be free to be present at your own nikah, not watching us and worrying about the hours. Edinburgh landmarks we photograph near include Edinburgh Castle, the fortress overlooking Princes Street Gardens.
Gladly, and it is work we know intimately. The mangni, the mehndi night with its colour and music, the dholki, the nikah itself and then the walima can all be covered as one booking or as the events you choose. Planning them together means we arrive at each function in Edinburgh already knowing your family and how the days connect.
With pleasure. The mangni is a lovely, warm gathering, the exchange of rings, the sweets, the two families meeting properly, and it makes for relaxed, joyful pictures. Covering it early also means your relatives already know us by the time the nikah arrives, so everyone is at ease and the wedding day itself feels a good deal calmer. Outdoors in Edinburgh we like Princes Street Gardens, the largest city park in the centre, in the shadow of the castle, with Holyrood Park and Arthur's Seat nearby.
We keep it simple: a booking fee to confirm, then the balance a couple of weeks before the celebrations begin. If it helps your planning, we are glad to agree a middle payment as well, particularly for multi-day weddings that cover the mehndi, nikah and walima. What we never do is add surprise charges afterwards, so your quote is the figure you pay. Edinburgh and neighbouring Corstorphine, Newington and Stockbridge are all covered.
