The mandap, the agni and the pheras
Saptapadi is spoken as seven separate vows, so we photograph it as seven separate frames, giving each step its own picture instead of compressing the whole ritual into a single image. We photograph the kanyadaan and the hastamelap as one flowing sequence, holding the giving of the hand and the binding of the union so the story of the ritual stays whole. The bride's arrival under a phoolon ki chadar, the canopy of flowers carried by her brothers, moves steadily down the aisle, and we walk backwards ahead of it to keep her face lit.
We photograph the reception entrance as a highlight, the announcement, the walk in and the cheer from the room as you arrive to celebrate with everyone you love. Mehndi artists work for hours, and rather than hover we return through the evening, so the patterns are photographed as they grow from an outline into a finished pair of hands. Fireworks or a sparkler send-off at the end of a reception need setting up minutes in advance, so we ask about them at the planning stage rather than discovering them as they are lit.

The days before the wedding are where much of the emotion lives, and we make sure the haldi, the mehndi and the music are all remembered. The morning starts gently, with prayers, dressing and family close by, and we cover it all before the baraat brings its noise and colour.
A long day needs steady hands, and we photograph the baraat, the pheras and the vidaai with the same attention from start to finish. By late evening the dance floor is the entire wedding, and we stay in among it rather than photographing from the edge, which is the difference between recording a party and showing one.
