Kanyadaan belongs to the parents as much as to the couple, so one frame holds the joined hands and another the father's face, because the two together tell what the ritual costs. As the sindoor is applied, the groom's hand covers the bride's face for a second. Timing that frame either side of the gesture is what saves it, and long practice makes it possible. Mandap muhurat, the blessing of the frame itself before the wedding, is often photographed by nobody, yet it explains where the whole day begins and belongs at the front of an album.
The mehndi and sangeet nights are full of colour, music and dancing, and we photograph the garba and raas with the same energy the evening brings to the floor. Mehndi evenings usually end with music and impromptu dancing once the henna dries, and staying past the henna itself is how the best pictures of that night get made. During the garba we move with the circle, photographing the sticks, the spinning skirts and the joy on faces of every age as the raas builds through the night.

Rain on a wedding morning changes the plan entirely, so we scout an indoor spot for the preparation portraits as soon as we arrive rather than hoping the weather turns. Aunties directing operations from a doorway are a constant of every wedding morning, and we watch that corner of the room as carefully as the bride, because the reactions there are gold.
A second photographer, if you choose to add one, changes the evening most of all, since the entrance, the reactions and the wider room can all be covered at the same moment.
