Bolton is somewhere we return to often for weddings. Register offices, hotels, country houses and converted barns are all familiar to us across Greater Manchester, Farnworth, Horwich and Westhoughton included. We understand that every ceremony has its own rhythm, so we read the room, keep our movement minimal and photograph the vows as they truly happen.
We keep a low profile through the ceremony and speeches, using longer lenses from a distance so nobody feels watched and the real reactions come through. We read the light in each room and work with what the day gives us, favouring window light and shade over anything that draws attention to a camera. Our method is simple: we follow the day rather than direct it, so what you see later is how it actually felt, not a version we staged.
There is a lot to like about photographing in Bolton. Bolton is somewhere we return to often for weddings, and couples from Oldham and Rochdale regularly ask us to cover their day here as well. Bolton is a Greater Manchester town with a strong textile heritage and a large South Asian community. Bolton railway station sits on the line between Manchester and Preston, with the M61 close by. When there is time for couple portraits, Queens Park, a Victorian park with lakes and formal planting near the town centre is a favourite, and Bolton Town Hall, a grand classical building in Victoria Square makes a memorable setting.
