The short answer

Your wedding photographer in Harlow, at a glance

An award winning, London based wedding photographer, Kaushik Bathia has spent more than twenty five years photographing weddings in Harlow and right across Essex. You will barely notice us for much of the day, and that is the point; the less we intrude, the more relaxed everyone stays in front of the lens. Church, civil, country house, barn, marquee or hotel, and every faith, culture and fusion celebration, we are equally at home photographing them all in Harlow. Fellowships of both the BIPP and the MPA are assessed on submitted panels of work rather than years served, which is a harder test than it sounds and a useful one for couples. Engagement shoots, a second photographer for busier days and beautiful fine art albums are all part of what we offer, and we travel throughout Essex and the rest of the UK for your wedding.

Sculpture Town is not a marketing invention; this Essex new town on the Hertfordshire border holds a large collection of public artworks placed around it, and that gives outdoor portraits something almost nowhere else nearby can offer. The Gibberd Garden, the listed garden and sculpture collection created by town planner Sir Frederick Gibberd, is the fullest expression of it. Harlow Town Park, one of the largest urban parks in Britain and laid out by Gibberd with Sylvia Crowe, gives the space for large group photographs. That Amazing Place, Down Hall Country House Hotel and Manor of Groves carry the celebrations, and country house grounds change the calculation, since portraits can then happen without leaving the site at all. Harlow Town station on the West Anglia Main Line runs to London Liverpool Street, and Old Harlow, Church Langley and Roydon are minutes away.

Serving Harlow

Photographs with feeling, right across Harlow

Paperwork decides where you stand. A licensed room is required, that licence attaches to the building rather than following you around, and capacity caps how many people may watch you marry. Consequences follow long before anybody discusses style: seating that will not move, an aisle that may not exist, and a table that has to be in shot. Settle all of that early and the room stops feeling like a restriction.

Harlow lets you finish indoors and step almost immediately into something worth photographing. Artworks set around the town mean the walk from a ceremony room to a usable backdrop is generally short, which protects whichever stretch of the afternoon always overruns. Roydon, Church Langley and Old Harlow lie close by, so guests are seldom gathered in one spot beforehand. Arrivals therefore trickle, and a receiving line takes longer than anybody budgets for.

Every kind of wedding

Same-sex, civil and religious weddings all photographed with care

Whatever makes a wedding legal takes only minutes. Two people, a registrar or a minister, the declarations, the signatures. All the rest is celebration assembled around that brief core, and any photographer treating the core as the whole commission goes home with almost nothing. We cover it properly, then give the remaining hours to everything the core exists for. Dancing, speeches and the unplanned hour usually hold the strongest pictures.

Same-sex couples get identical attention and none of the assumptions. Nothing is taken as read about who enters first, what anybody wears, or which family stands on which side, so those things get asked about early. Church weddings carry restrictions of their own, usually concerning movement during the service, and we establish those directly with whoever is taking it. Whoever conducts a service writes its rules, they differ from building to building, and finding out is our job rather than yours.

Why choose us

Why couples in Harlow choose us

We are easy to deal with, we answer messages, and we arrive early. On the day itself you will notice us far less than you expect. Afterwards you get photographs resembling the wedding you actually remember rather than a sequence of poses, which is what anybody hires a photographer for.

Good to know

Wedding photography in Harlow, frequently asked questions

Not for weddings in Harlow or the surrounding area. Northwood is home to the studio, and reaching you is covered within the fee right across this region. Dates much further afield get an honest answer before anybody signs.

For most couples, yes. Being photographed once with nothing riding on it drains the strangeness out, and come the wedding you know how we work, while we know how you two behave together in pictures.

Yes. Hand-finished albums, designed here and signed off by you ahead of any printing. Couples in Harlow usually add one after seeing their gallery, and copies for parents come from that same design.

The contract covers it. A replacement of equal standard is drawn from photographers we trust, and editing still happens here afterwards, so your finished gallery still looks like our work.

Less time than you fear, if a list arrives beforehand. Eight or ten groupings move briskly once somebody is calling names out. Thirty groupings will not, and they eat into the drinks everybody is waiting for.
