The short answer
An award winning, London based wedding photographer, Kaushik Bathia has spent more than twenty five years photographing weddings in Sunderland and right across Tyne and Wear. We keep a low profile through the ceremony and speeches, using longer lenses from a distance so nobody feels watched and the real reactions come through. From intimate register office ceremonies to grand country house weddings, and from village churches to garden and marquee celebrations, we photograph every kind of wedding in and around Sunderland. We have handled enough weddings to stay unflustered when a plan changes at short notice, keeping the mood light while we quietly work around it. Engagement shoots, a second photographer for busier days and beautiful fine art albums are all part of what we offer, and we travel throughout Tyne and Wear and the rest of the UK for your wedding.
Serving Sunderland
Sunderland is a north-eastern city with a diverse community. We know the country houses, hotels, register offices and village churches of Tyne and Wear well, and we photograph weddings throughout Washington, Houghton-le-Spring and Seaham. We photograph civil ceremonies, religious services and humanist celebrations with the same care, honouring your traditions and the shape your day is meant to take.
When we do gather you for couple portraits, we keep it brief and easy, walking and talking rather than posing, so the pictures still feel like you. Two of us usually cover the day, one following you and one on the guests, so both sides of every moment are recorded without either of us crowding the room. We stay observant and patient, waiting for expressions to arrive naturally rather than asking for them, which keeps the whole set feeling warm and unposed.
There is a lot to like about photographing in Sunderland. Sunderland is a north-eastern city with a diverse community, and couples from Newcastle upon Tyne and Bristol regularly ask us to cover their day here as well. In and around Sunderland, we have photographed at venues such as The Grand Hotel Sunderland, The Palm and Stadium of Light.
Sunderland is a city on the North Sea coast at the mouth of the River Wear with a strong shipbuilding and glassmaking heritage. Sunderland station is served by both national rail Northern services and the Tyne and Wear Metro. For pre-wedding and couple portraits, we love spots such as Roker Park and the adjacent seafront, with a lake, ravine and coastal promenade, with Penshaw Monument, a Grecian style folly on a hill overlooking the city close by for a striking backdrop.

What we offer
We photograph weddings across the country and are happy to travel wherever your celebration is taking place.
Your online gallery lands soon after the day, ready to share with family who could not be in the room.
We keep family and group shots efficient and good humoured, so you are back with your guests within minutes.
Every kind of wedding
Your ceremony sets the tone for everything that follows, so we photograph it faithfully and quietly, letting the vows and the setting carry the story. We photograph civil ceremonies, religious services and humanist celebrations with the same care, honouring your traditions and the shape your day is meant to take. For a service of any faith or none, we dress and behave respectfully, learn the shape of the day in advance and stay unobtrusive throughout the vows.
From the first toast to the last song, we stay attentive through the evening, photographing the dancing, the laughter and the friends who linger late. An engagement shoot in a Sunderland setting you both love makes lovely pictures in their own right and eases any nerves before the wedding proper. Between the set pieces there are portraits of just the two of you, and we keep those short and natural so you can slip back to the party quickly.

The whole celebration
Getting ready is where a lot of the honest pictures live, so we are there early for the quiet nerves, the last checks and the first look in the mirror. A pre-wedding shoot in the weeks beforehand doubles as a rehearsal for the camera, so the getting ready on the day already feels comfortable and familiar.
A wedding has its own tempo, and we follow it, letting the quiet stretches breathe and being ready when the pace lifts again. A good record of the day has a shape to it, a beginning, a middle and an end, and we build that arc rather than collecting a pile of loose pictures.
Why choose us
We back up every set of images in more than one place as soon as the day is done, so your photographs are safe long before your album is made. We have been photographing weddings since 2001, and that long grounding means we read a day's rhythm quickly and are ready for its moments before they arrive.
Because we have photographed in so many corners of Tyne and Wear, we usually know the venue, the light and the parking before we even set off for Washington, Houghton-le-Spring and Seaham. We build a generous cushion into every travel plan, so we are set up and ready at your Tyne and Wear venue long before the first guests arrive.

Where we travel
Wherever the celebration takes you, we come along, covering venues throughout Washington, Houghton-le-Spring and Seaham and right across Tyne and Wear without a fuss. A day that moves between two or three venues asks for careful timing, and we sort the route and the schedule well before we leave for Washington, Houghton-le-Spring and Seaham.

Good to know
Yes. We carry professional lighting and fast lenses, so dark ceremony rooms, winter afternoons and evening receptions are all manageable. We know how to work in low light without flattening the mood of a room. You do not need to change your plans around the forecast or the season.
Yes. Where a moment suits it, we prepare a considered black and white version alongside the colour edit, usually for strong light, emotion or reportage frames. You are not charged extra for this. The full gallery is delivered in colour, with black and white used where it genuinely adds something.
We deliver finished, high-resolution JPEGs rather than raw files, because editing is part of the craft you are booking and the look we are known for. Raw frames are unprocessed and not representative of the final work. If you have a particular use in mind, talk to us and we will find a sensible way to help.
Yes, as much as you need. For portraits we offer simple, friendly prompts about where to stand and what to do with your hands, so you never feel stranded in front of the lens. The rest of the day needs almost nothing from you, because we work quietly around the celebration as it unfolds.
Most couples choose full coverage from the morning preparations through to the first dance, all your edited high-resolution images, and a private online gallery to share with family and friends. You can add a second photographer, an engagement shoot, or one of our hand-finished fine-art albums. We will tailor the details to the day you have in mind.
Yes. Every package includes your edited photographs in full resolution with no watermarks, delivered through a private online gallery you can download from and share. You are free to print them yourselves at any size, though we are also happy to produce albums, framed prints and wall art finished to a professional standard.
Yes, we travel across Tyne and Wear and the wider UK, and we would be glad to photograph your wedding in Sunderland. We have worked at venues of every kind, from country houses to city hotels, so a new location is never a worry for us. Just let us know where you are marrying and we will be there.
