The pictures nobody asks for come out of the joins. A dusk car park, a corridor between a function room and a lift, an hour upstairs while somebody unpins their hair. Those gaps are where people stop performing. They are also the hardest part technically: mixed sources, low levels, nothing that can be built in the time available. The alternative is being moved mid-rite by somebody whose room it actually is, and getting that wrong once costs more goodwill than any single frame could repay.
Endings are what families most often lose. By then everybody is tired, the light has gone, a car is waiting and somebody is crying in a doorway. It is also, reliably, the print that gets framed. So we hold something back for it: batteries charged, a lens that behaves in the dark, and a position picked an hour earlier instead of found in a crowd. Departures are not repeated for the camera.
