The antarpat between you falls at a moment you will never see for yourselves, so we photograph from the side as the curtain drops and you look at one another for the first time. Ganesh puja opens proceedings while guests are still settling, and photographing it properly, the offerings, the priest's hands, the family gathered close, gives the ceremony sequence a proper beginning.
The garba and raas ask us to keep moving, and we do, photographing the whirl of the dandiya and the colour of the outfits without ever slowing the energy down. Jaggo night is loud, late and full of decorated pots and dancing in the street, and the mix of darkness and lamplight makes it one of the more interesting evenings to shoot. Sangeet stages are usually lit in strong colour, so we set exposure and white balance for the stage first, then work the audience separately, rather than compromising between the two.
