From the kanyadaan to the saptapadi, or the first laav to the last, the ceremony tells its own story and we follow it. At a Sikh wedding the exchange of garlands and the palla placed in the couple's hands begin the Anand Karaj, and we follow from the very first hymn. We know the order of the rituals in each tradition, so we are always in position.

The mehndi night, the sangeet and the haldi each carry their own mood, and we photograph them all. The groom may arrive on horseback, by car or on foot, and whichever way he comes, we are ready for the procession and the dancing around him. The bride's farewell, as she leaves her parents' home, is the most tender passage of many Asian weddings, and we photograph it with the gentleness it deserves.
