Hasta melap joins your hands beneath the cloth, and the frame we want is level with the hands rather than looking down on them, so we drop low for that part of the ritual. The groom's entrance sets the tone, and we photograph the baraat building around him, the family dancing him in and the moment the mandap comes into view for the first time. During the aashirwad we move quietly among the elders, photographing the blessings, the rice thrown over your heads and the warmth on the faces of everyone gathered around the mandap.
The morning after the wedding, when the bride is welcomed into her new home, is rarely booked and always moving, and we are very glad to cover it when families ask us to. Sehra bandi, when the groom's turban and the veil of flowers are tied by his family, is short and quietly proud, and we photograph it before the baraat noise begins outside. Dandiya sticks meeting on the beat is the picture everyone wants from a raas night, and it needs shooting from inside the circle, moving with it rather than watching from the wall.
