Signing photographs badly by default. Four heads bend over one table, and from standing height you get partings and shoulders. The remedy is either a step up or a low angle from the side, chosen before the pens come out rather than while they are moving. What surrounds it should be left alone: when an imam is speaking the camera holds still and keeps its distance. The document deserves one frame of its own, flat and legible, taken before anybody folds it away.

A walima room is lit for eating. Warm pools over the tables, a bright stage, and a dark middle where the guests actually are. Our own light goes into that middle, soft enough that nobody at a table turns round to look. A henna night reverses the job again: close, cheerful, coloured by whatever is already burning. Both are worth planning as separate shoots with their own finishing times.
