Sikh weddings start early. Are you happy with a dawn start?+

Absolutely happy. Since the Anand Karaj tends to take place in the morning, our day often opens before dawn with the bride's preparations, the choora and the groom's family getting ready. Having sorted our logistics the night before, we turn up ahead of time and keep our energy up across what can be a fourteen-hour day. Dawn starts come with the territory.

How do you photograph the Anand Karaj ceremony?+

Quietly and with respect, from your entrance into the darbar hall through to the closing ardas. We stay well back from the Guru Granth Sahib, shoot entirely without flash and shift position only when it will not disturb the sangat. We anticipate each stage and are already placed before it starts.

Will you photograph the maiyan, jago and choora ceremony in Perivale too?+

Yes, and these are some of our favourite events to cover. The maiyan with its turmeric and laughter, the jago carried through the house with singing, and the emotional choora ceremony with the maternal family all photograph wonderfully. Covering them also means the wedding day feels easier, because your relatives already know us by then.

Do you photograph the choora ceremony?+

Yes. The moment your maternal uncle slides the red and ivory bangles onto your wrists is one of the most emotional of the whole week, and we make sure it is beautifully recorded. We also photograph the kalire being tied and the playful shaking of them over the unmarried girls, a tradition many families want kept.

Do you travel to Perivale for Sikh weddings?+

Yes, gladly. Perivale is only about 6 miles from our studio, so travel there is not charged. The milni, maiyan, Anand Karaj and doli can all be covered from our Northwood base without an overnight stay.
