Choora goes on at home with the curtains open, and nothing later will match that light. After that the schedule hardens. A milni happens outdoors under whichever sky turns up, in a crowd, families pairing off with nobody stationary, so it gets shot long from outside the huddle because stepping in ends it. Then everyone is indoors and seated low, and a camera held at standing height will only find the tops of heads.
During the laavan it is room geometry that decides everything. Everybody faces one way, the couple walk a slow circle, and only one arc leaves both of them as faces rather than backs. We locate it during the kirtan beforehand and then stop wandering. Langar is the opposite job, wanting something wide and a short working distance among steel, steam and rows of people eating. Last comes the doli, and it goes quickly; the spot outside is therefore chosen and held well beforehand.
