Portraits that look like you in North Harrow

Expect roughly an hour, most of it spent moving between two or three spots instead of standing still in one. You see frames on the camera while we work, so anything you dislike gets dealt with on the spot instead of being discovered a fortnight later.

The selection afterwards is made together. Every frame that reaches the final set is retouched by hand rather than pushed through a preset, and files arrive at two sizes, one for printing and one for anything that lives on a screen.

Good to know

Portrait Photographer in North Harrow, FAQs

Most people say exactly that, and the answer is procedural rather than encouraging. We start walking at Headstone Manor Recreation Ground with the camera down, talking about something else, and the first minutes go by unphotographed. By the time it comes up you are already moving, which beats standing still while somebody tells you to loosen up. Nothing gets posed until you have seen a frame you like.

Of course. It is common for a portrait session to mix solo images with a handful of couple or group shots, and there is usually room to include that. Simply let us know beforehand who is joining, so we can arrange the lighting and looks to suit everyone. We cover North Harrow and nearby Pinner, Harrow-on-the-Hill and West Harrow.

Certainly. Personal-branding portraits are planned around the impression you want to make, whether warm and approachable, creative or more authoritative. You come away with a range of assured images for your website, social profiles and wider professional presence, all shot with flattering, professional lighting. Outdoors in North Harrow we would head for Headstone Manor Recreation Ground.

We do, and love it. Portraits suit every age, and we are especially patient and gentle with young children, letting them set the pace. Whether it is a single child, siblings, or a wider group, we keep the mood playful and relaxed so the pictures feel natural and warm. Landmarks we can work with near North Harrow include Headstone Manor, a moated medieval manor house nearby.

Yes, and here that is the usual choice. Headstone Manor Recreation Ground is the default for anything wanting open sky and room to walk, while the moated manor gives a darker, older background when a picture needs some weight behind the head. We also work at your own address when that is genuinely where the pictures belong. The Northwood studio stays in reserve for weather.

North Harrow went up mostly in one stretch between the wars, and a suburb laid out to a single pattern repeats itself. For a portrait that is a difficulty rather than a gift, because the frontage behind a sitter in one road looks much like the frontage in the next, and the picture ends up saying suburb and very little else. Two settings answer that, and they answer it in opposite ways. Headstone Manor Recreation Ground offers open sky, which is a large soft source, kind to most faces and tolerant of a wide spread of hours, though it also hands you a pale backdrop that light hair and light clothing sink into. The manor is medieval and moated, so its walls carry an irregularity of tone that nothing built between the wars can offer; set a sitter several paces clear of them and the background breaks up into dark and light instead of sitting flat behind the head. Season decides more than weather does. Low winter sun arrives under the level of the eye and models a face properly, so a bright afternoon in January is worth taking seriously rather than postponing. From late spring the sun is overhead by mid day, the eye sockets go dark, and the honest answer is to start early or wait for the last hour. Clothing follows whichever ground we settle on: mid tones against grass, something lighter against old walls, and nothing with a pattern fine enough to fight the brickwork.
