North Harrow station stands on Pinner Road, on the Metropolitan line, and the Northwood studio stands on that same line, so reaching a sitting is one train with no changes. The value of that is not the journey but the state people arrive in. Somebody who has changed twice and hurried the last part turns up warm, short of breath and slightly braced, and the first several frames show all three. Arriving unhurried means the sitting can begin with the camera already where it needs to be, and the hour is spent on expression rather than on recovery. The two decisions worth making before the day are the background, since a defocused office says something quite different from plain grey, and the shoulders, because a body turned slightly off axis with the face brought back to the lens looks composed, where square-on looks like identification.

At the studio
Getting to the studio from North Harrow
Our studio is at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU; from North Harrow it is a few minutes by car, or a short Metropolitan line ride to Northwood Hills. Headshot sessions are by appointment, passport and ID photos are taken without one, and we handle printing, framing, restoration and scanning ourselves. Studio hours run from 10:30 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday, with Sunday sessions between 13:00 and 18:00.
Every headshot is taken by Kaushik Bathia, FBIPP and FMPA, holder of five European Kodak Gold Awards, at the Northwood studio he opened in 2001 or at your own workplace.
