We set up in whatever room happens to be free and work around whatever else is going on that morning. The lighting is ours, so nobody has to find a window or clear a wall in advance.
Twenty minutes of photographing is normally plenty for one person, including a change of shirt if you bring one. You choose from a gallery, the picks are retouched one at a time, and files arrive as a square crop and a wider version that leaves space for a headline.

Sudbury Town is on the Uxbridge branch of the Piccadilly line, and a headshot can be booked for one person as easily as for a whole department. That is easy to organise and hard to match afterwards. Two pictures can share a wall, a lens and an identical shirt and still refuse to sit next to one another, because what separates them is how far away the camera stood. A face recorded from a metre carries a heavier nose and smaller ears than the same face recorded from three, and no edit repairs that. So the working distance and the focal length get noted alongside the lighting, and a repeat sitting is rebuilt to those numbers instead of guessed at. For most people here the real choice is between their own workplace and the Northwood studio, and the deciding question is what the finished picture is meant to say. If it should say nothing about location, the studio does that better, since a controlled wall does not shift with the sky. Reflections are solved by lifting the light and tilting the arms down a degree or two, which takes seconds when it is expected and eats half a sitting when it is not.

From Sudbury the studio is about 5 miles away at The Broadway, 21 Joel St, Northwood HA6 1NU; by Tube, Northwood Hills on the Metropolitan line is closest. Headshot sittings there are booked ahead, and the studio also handles prints, frames, old photographs and negatives in house. The studio also takes passport and ID photos. Headshot sittings can be booked within our hours, Mon to Sat 10:30 to 18:00 and Sun 13:00 to 18:00, so a working-day slot or a Sunday afternoon both work.
Your headshot is taken by Kaushik Bathia himself, a fellow of the BIPP and the MPA with five European Kodak Gold Awards, who has worked from Northwood since 2001.
