Holding Each Ritual as Its Own Moment

For Tamil and South Indian families, the muhurtham and the tying of the thali are the sacred centre of the ceremony. At a Hindu wedding, the pheras around the sacred fire seal the marriage, and we capture them close. The garland exchange, when bride and groom raise the jaimala over one another, releases the first great cheer of the day, and we catch it as it breaks.

From the first event to the last, we tell the full story of the celebration. The bhangra and the dancing carry the reception late into the night, and we stay for all of it. Away from the couple, cousins reunite, aunts organise and children weave through the crowd, and we watch the family moments that fill the edges of the day.
