Who runs the room changes with the tradition, and working that out is where preparation actually goes. Beneath a mandap a priest runs it, seated low, the fire at his knee, so a lens must drop to that height or lose the faces. In a hall that defers to scripture the reasoning differs but the instinct is identical: lower, and further away. Where an imam speaks, few words are needed and the legal weight of the day lands on a signature, and signatures happen at tables. Three rooms, three answers, one question underneath.

Days differ as much as rooms do. A daytime ceremony hands you natural light and removes it by five; an evening reception offers none and gives the whole question to whoever rigged the room. When both fall on one date, portraits belong to the afternoon, never to the evening. We would say so while you are planning, rather than promise both and deliver one.

Work outward from the moments at either end that you could not stand to miss, and put an hour of margin on each. Ten to twelve hours covers most main days here; earlier nights get their own booking.

By asking the building, not the caterer. Somewhere in a place of worship there is a person who looks after the hall, and their answer about cameras is the one to act on. We would talk to them first and arrive ahead of your family.

Yes, and two separate shoots usually serve better than one long stretch. The legal one is often small, midweek and finished inside quarter of an hour. Put your hours where the people are, then allow ten minutes of portraits outside afterwards.
